Pollarding - Height preservation

Pollarding

Pollarding is a pruning technique which we use to keep young trees and shrubs at a desired height. This is particularly useful to stop vigorous trees outgrowing their given space. Pollarding should be done every two to four years. To pollard, we choose a framework around which to cut to a certain length, and remove thinner branches coming from the main stem of the tree or shrub. Because pollarding stops branches getting to a size where they become unstable or too large, it’s an effective safe management practice for trees in urban environments. Our arborists can give you advice on which trees can be pollarded (as not all trees can) and what the best management strategy for your tree will be.
